Tessa Dare is back with another fun, funny, romantic novella in the Spindle Cove series.
Elinora Browning is on her way to Spindle Cove to give a talk (she’s an authoress) when the coach left without her. Forced to share a ride with Lord Dashwood, her friend who’d left her so precipitously years before and who “unknowingly” inspired “Lord Ashwood Missed Out”, the pamphlet she wrote that made her famous, she hoped just to get to her destination unscathed. Alas, Dash was determined that she prove to him what he missed out on…
I’m not sure what it is about the Spindle Cove series, but it seems to inspire Ms. Dare to write the kind of stories I love–light, funny, with artful turn of phrases and tongue-in-cheek humor that made me breeze through this novella in one sitting and wishing for more. (And yes, there’ll be more with a Spindle Cove book #5 in 2016! Yay!)
Dash is such a romantic. Though I don’t quite understand why he left in the first place, or why he set out to humiliate Nora way back when she first came to London, he more than made up for it with the atlas. Not sure if such a thing was really done, but it’s such a great grand gesture reveal. *swoon* Now, where are romantic men like Dash in real life?
Nora is a great heroine, too. Not only in what she’d accomplished, but in realizing what her accomplishments mean to the other girls in her time, and that through her writing, she hopes to change their thinking and to give meaning to their lives.
One thing great with the Spindle Cove books is the message they bring: that a girl doesn’t need a man, for she has value in and of herself–her wit, her strengths, her accomplishments. (Every heroine in the Spindle Cove books has some thing she excels at–herbs, rocks, piano, writing–they’re not like other historical romance heroines who do nothing but attend balls and soirees.) But if the right man comes along, then it’s a bonus.
Here, we have the pleasure of being given a glimpse into the life of Griffin and Pauline after their HEA in Any Duchess Will Do. Other characters such as Bram, Colin and Thorne (the heroes of the other books) have cameos as they rode forth with Griff to find the missing Nora, when the storm delayed her arrival at Spindle Cove.
LORD DASHWOOD MISSED OUT is a gem of a novella that only Tessa Dare can write. Don’t miss this!

A snowstorm hath no fury like a spinster scorned!
Miss Elinora Browning grew up yearning for the handsome, intelligent lord-next-door…but he left England without a word of farewell. One night, inspired by a bit too much sherry, Nora poured out her heartbreak on paper. Lord Dashwood Missed Out was a love letter to every young lady who’d been overlooked by gentlemen–and an instant bestseller. Now she’s on her way to speak in Spindle Cove when snowy weather delays her coach. She’s forced to wait out the storm with the worst possible companion: Lord Dashwood himself.
And he finally seems to have noticed her.
George Travers, Lord Dashwood, has traveled the globe as a cartographer. He returned to England with the goal of marrying and creating an heir-only to find his reputation shredded by an audacious, vexingly attractive bluestocking and her poison pen. Lord Dashwood Missed Out, his arse. Since Nora Browning seems to believe he overlooked the passion of a lifetime, Dash challenges her to prove it.
She has one night.
