PLAYING WITH FIRE is the magnificent, hot hot hot follow up to Flirting with Fire. What makes it hot? Dominant hero, saucy-mouthed heroine, power games in and out of the bedroom. Combine that with witty dialogue, and you’re in for an amazing ride you don’t want to end!
When firefighter Alexandra Dempsey saved major Eli Cooper’s life, it helps bring up his ratings in his bid for re-election. And the fake dating’s a win-win. But what happens when the fake turns all too real?
I’ve read a lot of books, and it’s rare to find one where both the hero and the heroine are larger than life. Rarer still for me to love both so much that I wish the book would just go on and on and on. (Ms. Meader, that’s a hint for Eli and Alex to have meaty cameo roles in the next book, if not a novella.) In some books, the hero would overshadow the heroine or vice-versa, but not so here! They’re both just so loud (in a good way) and bold and they’re just perfect for each other.
Of course, Eli is totally underhanded in his methods to get a chance with Alex, but in a way, that’s what makes him so charming. And irresistible. I like how Ms. Meader makes her characters so flawed and not totally good and so perfectly human. Even while you shake your head at what they did, you can’t help but understand why they did it or acted that way.
I also enjoyed the glimpses of Alex’s life as a firefighter, the calls she goes on to save limb and life. It gives me a healthy respect for the brave men and women who serve and save at the risk of their own lives.
This book is so so good that I wonder how the author could top this one. Still, I’m willing to see her try with Wyatt’s book, Sparking the Fire.
Truly unforgettable characters and their hot hot hot chemistry make this book a win for me! I would give 10 stars if I could. Definitely keeper shelf material!

As the only female firefighter at Engine Co. 6, Alexandra Dempsey gets it from all sides: the male coworkers who think she can’t do the job, the wives and girlfriends who see her as a threat to their firefighter men, and her overprotective foster brothers who want to shelter their baby sister at all costs. So when she single-handedly saves the life of Eli Cooper, Chicago’s devastatingly handsome mayor, she assumes the respect she’s longed for will finally come her way. But it seems Mr. Mayor has other ideas…
Eli Cooper’s mayoral ratings are plummeting, his chances at reelection dead in the water. When a sexy, curvaceous firefighter gives him the kiss of life, she does more than bring him back to the land of the living–she also breathes vitality into his campaign. Riding the wave of their feel-good story might prop up Eli’s flagging political fortunes, but the sizzling attraction between them can go nowhere; he’s her boss, and there are rules that must be obeyed. But you know what they say about rules: they’re made to be broken…
