And she’s back! DO YOU WANT TO START A SCANDAL is vintage Tessa Dare–with heartwarming romance and cheeky laugh-out-loud banter.
I haven’t read the 3rd book in the Castles Ever After series, but for the first two books, I thought the theme of having the heroines inherit a castle and for the story to revolve there sounded a bit forced. And well, rather limiting. And well, some rather ridiculous stuff happened in the books. I’m glad to see the author had abandoned it in this book and decided to have the heroine get the castle in the usual way–by marrying the man who already owned it.
Though this book is the 4th book in the Castles Ever After series, the heroine is Charlotte Highwood, sister of Diana and Minerva Highwood from the Spindle Cove series.
Though young, Charlotte is a great heroine–clearheaded and courageous and smart. While Piers is the highborn lord–smart and mysterious, cold and forbidding, yet he has a sense of humor that he allowed to escape only with Charlotte and his loved ones. I especially like the “undoing” of Piers, wherein we see him being unraveled by his interactions with Charlotte and we know that he’s on his way to falling for her. I like their chemistry together–totally fun and enjoyable to read about.
Charlotte’s Mama, the one who always pushed her daughters toward rich, highborn lords, is at her game again, but we also get to learn why she is that way, and even as we might not agree with her methods, we understand that she’s actually like most mothers and we learn to sympathize with her.
DO YOU WANT TO START A SCANDAL is a fun historical romance romp that only Tessa Dare could write. This is a standalone book that historical romance lovers wouldn’t want to miss!

On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library.
Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan? Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall? Perhaps the butler did it.
All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville–the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue.
But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit . . . and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past.
Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?
