TEMPEST RISING is the first episode in Season 1 of the incredible Rising Storm Series. The series is to be read like an ongoing drama, with each episode releasing on a weekly basis. In fact, it’s like a TV series, with Season 2 coming next year! Certainly something new, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
In TEMPEST RISING, author Julie Kenner sets the setting for the entire season, introducing the cast of characters and putting into play the event that would serve as the catalyst for the conflicts that would play out. Here, Ginny Moreno is going back home to Storm, Texas for the summer, with her best friend, Jacob Salt. Unfortunately, tragedy struck, and that one act will unravel secrets and affect everyone in the town in a way no one could’ve imagined…
I think the author did a good job introducing the town and the characters, as well as setting up the conflicts that would be played out later on in the series. And while nothing’s really resolved, the episode ends on a feel-good note for some of the characters, even if some readers may not agree with their actions.
The characters are flawed and realistically human, their motivations and actions logical. That said, there are, I think, too many characters introduced in this short length, with multiple points of view. I’m not sure if the author needed to feature all of them at this point, but the result is that I had to really note each character as well as their intertwining relationships with other people in the town. It would help if there’s a handy list of characters at the start or at the end that readers could refer to. Or a family tree? Make that family trees.
A warning to romance readers: Don’t expect this to read like the usual romance books. There’s no HFN here, much less an HEA. At least not in this installment. Not sure if that will be the case for later installments, though. Also, because there are multiple points of view, at one point, we are in the POV of a person who is committing adultery.
That aside, TEMPEST RISING is a great beginning to the series. I can’t wait to peel back the layers in this town!

Secrets, Sex and Scandals …
Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy… Get ready. The storm is coming.
Nestled among rolling hills and painted with vibrant wildflowers, the bucolic town of Storm, Texas, seems like nothing short of perfection.
But there are secrets beneath the facade. Dark secrets. Powerful secrets. The kind that can destroy lives and tear families apart. The kind that can cut through a town like a tempest, leaving jealousy and destruction in its wake, along with shattered hopes and broken dreams. All it takes is one little thing to shatter that polish.
Ginny Moreno didn’t mean to do it, but when she came home to Storm, she brought the tempest with her. And now everyone will be caught in its fury…
I just saw the price on Amazon. It’s $6.99 for a paperback. And I don’t think it’s worth it, when you compare it with a full-length print book (not this title, but other books), which costs $7.99.
