Review: Hot Toy by Jennifer Crusie

garden

HOT TOY is a short, zany, funny, unexpected romantic suspense set during the season to be jolly.

On Christmas Eve, Trudy frantically searches in the last toy store for a Mac Two, a toy soldier that spits toxic waste and which seemed to be a must-have toy for boys aged five. It’s for her nephew Leroy, whose father ran off with another woman and whose mother is having a breakdown. At the toy store, who should she bump into than Nolan Mitchell, the guy who dumped her after three dates. And who it seemed is also after the lone toy soldier that she saw. And thus ensued a hilarious story of second chances.

One thing I have to say, Jennifer Crusie sure knows how to write funny. That scene in the cab with Nolan and Reece (another guy who seemed to be making the moves on Trudy) and Trudy is extremely funny with two or three conversations going on at the same time.

The suspense part is a bit far-fetched, but it was great fun nonetheless. There’s some romance with several hot kisses and Nolan acquitting himself quite well toward the end.

Though short, HOT TOY will put you in the spirit of Christmas for sure!
